Nuclear energy use in times of climate change
Friday, September 20, 2019
10:00 - 15:30
Alte Kapelle (Universität Wien, Standort Altes AKH)
The causes, processes and impacts of climate change are becoming ever deeper understood. Potential countermeasures in order to reduce global CO2 emissions are also being discussed in the media and the public. Again and again, nuclear energy is also mentioned as a possible contribution or even as a solution for CO2-neutral power generation.
In this year's 10th Vienna Nuclear Symposium, the relationships between nuclear energy and climate change will be examined and, in particular, the question of whether nuclear energy as a CO2-neutral technology can make a significant contribution to countering climate change. In connection with this, environmental and social problems in the construction of new power plants and the aging fleet of nuclear power plants will also be discussed.
